About
Capital Brass!
CBE History,
Scores, Pics Here
The new Capital Brass! has
returned to performing in the
Capital District! The
group's mission is to produce a
high-quality brass & percussion
ensemble that will explore all
kinds of performance
opportunities in the Capital
District.
We perform as a Quintet and a
Brass Ensemble, for Concert and
Park appearances.
We also produce a Parade Corps,
and occasionally compete in
brass competitions.
History:
The original
Capitol Brass was a competitive
senior drum corps (at first operating
as Noble-Callahan) from
1985-1993 and was a DCA
associate member for several
years. They carried a full DCA
schedule in their last few
years, and placed in DCA Finals
in 1993. The corps made
consistent and steady
competitive progress throughout
their history, and is
the only competitive field
corps, junior or senior, to hail
from the Albany, NY area in the
last 25 years.
Completing the
Circle:
In 1994, after the demise of the
drum corps, some Capitol Brass
veterans created Brass-O-Mania!. This new, professional group
would develop into a big band
that was influenced heavily by
our drum corps backgrounds.
Now, after 12 years of wowing
crowds with B-O-M!, we're
turning it back around and are
bringing what we've learned and
experienced to the new Capital
Brass!
Some important aspects of our
approach:
-
An adult ensemble for
players with some formal
music training
-
A reasonable rehearsal
schedule that will allow
participation from players
with family, work and other
music commitments that would
ordinarily preclude them
from field corps
-
limited travel
-
Bb/F, bell-front instrumentation
-
A music book that is fun &
audience-accessible
-
Commitment to a high performance level
-
A progressive and
professional approach to all
aspects of the program
-
A plan
to grow our group slowly:
one quality player at a time
-
The group will be produced
and managed by
Brass-O-Mania! - drawing
from a team with a wealth of
music ensemble experience
